Taking your family to see lions in the wild requires knowing the park's strict rules. The core safari demands long periods of sitting still in an open vehicle. Parents should weigh the conditions before booking a jeep for young children.
What are the age and capacity rules for families?
Each open Gypsy allows a maximum of 6 adults and 1 child aged 3 to 12 years.
You must book your official permit online up to 90 days in advance. All family members must carry the exact original photo ID used during the booking process. The permit covers the whole jeep, and the total cost for Indian citizens is roughly ₹4,000 to ₹4,500.
Is the 3-hour Gir Jungle Trail suitable for toddlers?
The core trail is tough for toddlers because it lacks restrooms and requires complete silence.
During the 3-hour safari, visitors are not allowed to step out of the vehicle at any point. The dirt trails get extremely dusty. Kids must also stay completely quiet to avoid disturbing the wildlife. This makes the core trail challenging for very young children.

Why is Devalia Safari Park better for young kids?
Devalia is a fenced 412-hectare zone offering a shorter, 1-hour safari with high lion sighting odds.
If your children cannot sit still for three hours, the Devalia Interpretation Zone is the best alternative. You can take a 1-hour guided bus tour or a 55-minute Gypsy safari. It offers guaranteed wildlife sightings with much less waiting.
What should kids wear and pack for the safari?
Dress children in earth-toned layers and bring dust masks for the open dirt trails.
Early morning safaris in winter (December to March) are freezing, so warm jackets are essential. You should also pack sun hats, UV protection sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle. Single-use plastic items are strictly prohibited inside the forest.

Can families take their own personal car inside Sasan Gir?
No private cars are allowed on the safari trails at any time.
You must use the forest department's registered vehicles and authorized guides. You will leave your private vehicle at the Sinh Sadan Reception Centre before starting your designated route.
